That’s right, there are more changes on the horizon in Google Adwords.

Next month, Exact and Phrase match keywords will also show for misspellings, which is sure to change Adwords a bit.

We know from experience, that a lot of our clients are currently using misspellings as keywords due to their low competition and therefore cheap CPC’s. When the update takes place, it is likely that these clients will suffer a decrease in traffic and thus a decrease in sales.

For advertisers who are not using these yet, it will potentially be a fantastic way of increasing traffic through their keyword list.

If you have any questions about this, feel free to get in touch with the TrueLine team today.

Online marketing is a broad term used to describe a whole host of different ways companies can promote their services and products using the Internet. Online marketing is also referred to as internet marketing, digital marketing or web marketing and relates to the functions of On Site SEO (Search Engine Optimisation), Pay- Per- Click Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Email Marketing and Link Building.

The newly combined forces of AOL, Yahoo and Microsoft at the beginning of the year in an attempt to tackle Google’s mammoth 85% global market share leaves many questioning if anything can topple the search engine giant. The only change so far has seen Microsoft’s search engine Bing taking a noticeable percentage of partner Yahoos stake and still neither are in sight.

However there is one genuine threat looming on Google’s horizon – a strong partnership between Facebook and Microsoft. Facebook has Bing integrated within it and are working together to create a “social search” engine which has already seen the social media giant gain a 1.43% of the search engine market, overtaking Askjeeves.

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a method used to ensure a websites content is optimized for keywords relating to the companies product or service to gain a higher position on search engines.

Pay- Per- Click (PPC) is mainly used on reference to Google’s Adwords tool and is called this because an advertisers cost are based on the amount of clicks an advert receives.

Google also has numerous other function integrated within it including shopping and maps which can all be used as online marketing tools to help promote a website and improve its rankings.

Online marketing is increasingly incorporating the use of social media, which as the biggest growth market on the web is inevitable. The biggest challenge with social media marketing lies in encouraging people to “opt in” to your company in the form of a “like” or “follow” on Facebook and Twitter respectively. The future of online marketing certainly appears to be more social but how will this affect the online marketing landscape?

Unfortunately for larger advertisers, there will simply not be as much detail as they will require to optimise their marketing, but for smaller advertisers with small and often extremely important budgets, it is perfect!

Google have promised that Adwords Express is going to be faster, simpler and targeted at local businesses. The service was first launched in the US in Autumn of 2010 and was a big success, which lead it to later be launched in October 2011 for Germany and the UK.

The +1 button is a new feature that allows signed-in users to recommend websites and ads directly from Google search results pages by simply clicking the +1 button. That recommendation will then be seen by all of their signed-in contacts the next time they search for products or services like yours.

People trust recommendations from their friends and family more than any other source on the Web and the +1 button is like a five-star rating for your featured product or service. Personal recommendations make your ads more effective and can be the little nudge potential customers need to become actual customers and future “+1’ers.”

When your ad is shared, Google notes its final landing page URL. When the same URL appears in an organic search listing, the organic listing will include the same personal annotations as would an ad.

Similarly, if a user +1′s one of your organic listings, ads with the same final landing page URL will include the same personal annotations, increasing the chance of your ads getting noticed.

+1′s (whatever their source — organic search, ads, or +1 buttons on publisher sites) is a signal that affects organic search ranking, but +1′s do not change quality scores for ads and ad ranking

The introduction of red sub-titles down the left of the page is a great way to help attract attention to them as it has been argued that this sidebar has been ignored by its users since its introduction a year ago.

The most beneficial thing to TrueLine Marketing clients is that people can now rank adverts. Therefore, those who have higher budgets and high levels of impressions will hopefully see an impact from their adverts being ranked by searchers. This will hopefully have a positive impact on Quality Score for the most appealing of adverts.

What is a better testimonial for a small Search Engine Optimisation marketing company, than to be on the first page of Google for a number of their biggest terms?

After making a few tweaks to our website, we’ve seen our natural rankings increase over the last few weeks. This has come with the benefit of a 35% increase in traffic throughout May 2011, which is a normal figure for our clients on ‘locally’ based keywords.

What is a ‘Local Keyword’?

A local keyword or local terms, is a keyword or phrase with a location in it. For example, a keyword we would choose for a Business Management Consultant would be ‘Business Management Consultants Surrey’. From a term such as this, you can expect much better results. This is for 2 reason:

1) People searching for that term are looking in the local area, which we would expect to be the target marketing for a small to medium sized business in this industry.

2) It is far less competitive and you can expect results far quicker. We see a majority of our clients on the first page for a handful of their keywords within the first month or so, leaving us with the rest of the contract to make tweaks and up the positions from 6th or 7th to 2nd or 3rd.

For more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us!

It’s been on the cards for over a year now, but when will it happen?

Yahoo and Bing have been talking about the big merge but nothing has changed as of yet.

We are informed that Bing will be taking control of Yahoo’s advertising space, thus increasing their traffic share to help compete with Google. The big question is will it work?

Google is such a large website now that even the way people talk about online searching has changed. People now refer to searching online as ‘Googling’ something, and this just sums up the extent of the online giants.

Bing claims to have a database of similar size to Google and it’s advertising campaigns focus on the ‘more relevant’ search results. In our experience, people prefer Google on all fronts and the information supplied by Bing just isn’t what they are looking for.

‘If it’s not broken why fix it’ seems to the motto in most internet user’s heads when it comes to choosing their search engine.

A common question from many of our clients is whether to allocate some budget to Bing or not. Our advice on this is simple, and has been working very effectively to date.

As Google still control over 80% of the internet’s search traffic, we strongly recommend reaching your absolute maximum budget with them before making the switch. Time and time again we see Bing accounts with little or no traffic and it’s because people simply are not using it. Google still has by far the largest database of websites and continues to deliver accurate results for a vast majority of search terms and keywords. If it’s not broken, why fix it?

Google also has a much wider reach in terms of the sites that your adverts can appear on. If targeted correctly, you can find your target audience all over the web through Google Adwords, regardless of how much of a ‘niche’ you think your business is.

There was a story in the news recently where Google found somethings appearing on Bing that shouldn’t have. For more details on this story, see below.
